I recently have been entrusted with one of these as a courtesy car for the last week or so. I can say hand on heart that I am very impressed.
Firstly there's the acceleration! It's not a quick car and neither does it profess to be but it feels able to summon up usable performance when you need it. It seems as though no matter what situation you're in the car has enough power to deal with it. It's nice to have this luxury when travelling on the road!
Of course styling is good too. The ad campaign stated that madness is but one step from genius! I think they're right. The lines and creases are pleasant to look at and make what would otherwise be a boring bit of metalwork interesting to look at. You also suspect that just one extra crease would tip it over the edge and make it too busy and therefor ugly.
The interior is the same affair as the exterior. I'm not sure about the two tone dash if I'm honest and would have it specced in just one colour! Other than that it's neat and laid out well. All the controls are simple and easy to find. Even though it has quite a few gadgets none are hard to use, which says a lot really.
Handling is also good. Not exceptional but if you are having a spirited drive down an A road or B road then you will enjoy the Ibiza. It handles well and corners without many hints of body roll. In general body control is very good, with the car feeling stiff and able rather than loose and useless! It also gets comfort done too. On a Dual Carriagway you'll find it doesn't bounce at all making it a very comfortable cruiser.
There are some niggles I'll admit. I don't like the position of the brake and throttle pedals! The throttle is placed a long way down from the brake which means you have to really lift your foot off the pedal to get to the other one. This is opposed to just moving your right foot to the left a bit! I also didn't like the fact that it gave me electric shocks every time I closed the door. The only time it didn't was when I gave it back to the dealer.
But to be honest the problems are very few and far apart. Some won't like it's quirkeness and others won't like the grown up nature of it's drive but to most it'll suit right down to a tee! I would buy one right now but I don't have enough money.
